Pacquiao believes Espinosa's 'shocking' revelations

Alleged Eastern Visayas drug lord Kerwin Espinosa made some "shocking" revelations during a private meeting with Sen. Manny Pacquiao last Friday, and the lawmaker believes them.

In an interview on radio dzBB on Sunday, Pacquiao said Espinosa - who arrived in the Philippines Friday after his arrest in Abu Dhabi - named people involved in the illegal drug trade, including elected officials.

"Marami [siyang sinabi] at talagang nakakagulat. Hindi ko na siguro banggitin mga binaggit niya kasi magkaron naman siya ng affidavit," said Pacquiao in an interview with dzBB's Nimfa Ravelo.

"Sa tingin ko, kapanipaniwala naman [ang mga sinabi niya] kasi sa detalye ng ipinapahayag niya," added Pacquiao.

The lawmaker also quoted Espinosa as denying being a drug lord.

"Hindi ko narinig sa kanya na inamin niya na drug lord sila, pero ang business nila drugs," said Pacquiao.

According to the neophyte senator, Espinosa believed his father, Albuera, Leyte Mayor Rolando Espinosa, was killed to discourage him from spilling the beans on the illegal drug trade.

The younger Espinosa, however, vowed to squeal on the individuals involved in drugs once he appears in a Senate inquiry on his father's killing inside a detention facility in Leyte.

"Ready siya. Willing siya at ang sabi niya sa akin, dahil pinatay nila iyong daddy ko, iyong tatay ko para hindi ako magsalita, manahimik ako, ngayon sasabihin ko talaga sino kasabwat at kabangga," said Pacquiao.

Espinosa requested to meet with Pacquiao before he arrived in the Philippines, saying that he trusts the senator because of his dedication and their shared Visayan roots, the report said.

Pacquiao and Espinosa talked for a few minutes, with the latter narrating how he got involved in illegal drug operations.

Espinosa arrived at the Ninoy Aquino Internatinal Airport before dawn on Friday after he was arrested in Abu Dhabi last month.

Espinosa is currently detained at the Philippine National Police's (PNP) Custodial Center in Camp Crame.

PNP spokesman Senior Superintendent Dionardo Carlos on Saturday told radio dzBB that the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group was still in the process of completing the sworn affidavit of Espinosa.

Interior and Local Government Secretary Ismael Sueno said in a separate radio dzBB interview that Espinosa's affidavit may already be finished by Monday or Tuesday this coming week.
